Raising the Bar... and the Deck!

When a major pork processing facility reached out with an ongoing challenge in their production area, Brechbuher Scales and B-TEK delivered a tailored solution that checked every box for cleanliness, efficiency and worker safety.

The facility had been struggling with a traditional pit-style floor scale that required full removal any time the pit needed cleaning. Not only was this process time-consuming, but it also posed safety risks to workers handling heavy equipment in a demanding environment.

What was the recommendation? B-TEK's Clydesdale Matrix with Lift Deck—a rugged, stainless steel floor scale purpose-built for food industry applications. The customer can now easily raise the deck and clean out the pit without removing the scale. This upgrade dramatically cuts down cleaning time and reduces the risk of injuries associated with lifting or moving heavy equipment.

To streamline installation and integration, Brechbuhler also relocated the junction box to the opposite side of the scale—making the wiring path to the indicator more accessible and service-friendly. In addition, B-TEK's engineering team designed a custom pit frame to fit the customer’s existing concrete footprint, eliminating the need for costly modifications.

Today, the pork facility uses the Matrix as a Legal-for-Trade scale, weighing heavy bins of pork transported by electric pallet jacks. The scale is in constant use with real-time data flowing from the indicator directly into the customer’s ERP system for seamless traceability.
